Join us for an informative presentation by club member Chris Castro, Director of Sustainability & Resilience and Senior Advisor to Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. Chris will discuss Establishing an Electric Vehicle Readiness code for the City of Orlando.

Background

The Orlando Planning Staff is proposing an electric vehicle (EV) readiness code that requires a portion of parking spaces in new construction to make provisions for current and future EV charging needs.

This would require new developments, enlargements of commercial, commercial multifamily, and industrial properties to:

  • Allocate 2% of parking spaces to be equipped with EV charging stations.
  • Allocate 20% of parking spaces to be “EV-Capable,” with conduit and dedicated capacity in the electrical panel.

Chris will also cover the City's e-Mobility plan and other EV initiatives.

In addition, he is on the 'Future-Ready' steering committee that develops comprehensive policies and programs that advance the City's sustainability, climate action, and smart city goals.

Chris is best known for his entrepreneurial efforts prior to coming to the City, including co-founder and President of IDEAS For Us, a global UN-accredited 501(c)3 nonprofit working to incubate and fund innovative projects that advance the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.
