Online Q&A with Amber

This is a special Welcome Wednesday with Joe Pak, the CEO of Amber, a new company exclusively focused on Tesla extended warranty and remote diagnostics.

Amber provides extended warranty coverage (AmberCare) and remote technical support (Amber Concierge) for Tesla owners. They're a quickly growing team of Tesla owners, ex-Tesla employees and EV enthusiasts obsessed with making aftermarket EV service modern, accessible, and affordable.

The event starts at 6pm. It will be recorded and the recording made available to paid members of the club.

The link to join the event will be included at the bottom of the registration confirmation email, and you will receive a reminder the day before the event.

Here's some background from Joe:

Protection plans - isn't that an extended warranty?

Yes, protection plans are often referred to as extended warranty, aftermarket warranty, extended service agreements, or extended service contracts.

How does AmberCare differ from the Tesla extended service agreement (ESA)?

1. The Tesla ESA is only available for original owners while the vehicle is still under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty (first 4yr, 50K miles). AmberCare is available for Tesla S, X, 3, Y vehicles, 2016 and newer, under 200,000 miles.

2. The ESA does not cover the traction battery and drive unit(s). AmberCare provides options to supplement Tesla Basic Limited Vehicle Warranty and / or Tesla Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty coverage.

3. The ESA requires customers to pay for coverage upfront. AmberCare provides monthly payment options for coverage.

How is Amber different from other extended warranty providers?

1. Amber is serious about developing a transparent and trustworthy protection plan for Tesla owners. All of Amber's coverage and pricing options are available online along with an extensive FAQ. The company stringently follows state regulatory guidelines, including those that require Amber to submit contracts and financials to state authorities each year, and have an insurance company backing their policies.

2. Amber has developed a protection program built to be compatible with Tesla Service. The company has a growing roster of experienced Tesla Service veterans that have seen every type of Tesla repair and are ready to assist in the event of a covered breakdown.

3. AmberCare was built to maximize owner flexibility with its monthly payment plans and three different coverage options. No upfront payments or multi-year commitments required.

4. Amber uses the official Tesla diagnostics toolkit to perform 150+ point remote diagnostics inspections. The company uses this technology to provide customers information about their vehicle's health, and eliminate waiting periods.

What does AmberCare cover?

  • Basics matches the Tesla Limited Basic Warranty coverage you get when you first purchase the vehicle, minus wear and tear items, the high-voltage battery, and the drive unit(s).
  • Essentials covers the high-voltage battery, the drive unit(s), and the high-voltage system.
  • Premium covers the high-voltage battery, drive unit(s), and everything covered under Basics to provide maximum protection.

After I have a claim, do I need to continue subscribing to AmberCare?

No, in the event of a cancellation, Amber provides a pro-rata refund, less claims paid. Amber strives to provide a top-notch customer experience to encourage customers to continue their coverage even after a big claim.
