Important information for Plaid reservation holders

Club Member Richard Garrett of Sarasota recently took delivery of his brand new Plaid Model S.  He was surprised to be told that all new Model S cars come with a front license plate holder, which is not required in the state of Florida, and (many would say) spoils the look of the car.

The license plate is held on by adhesive and can be removed with a little effort. Richard put in a service request via the app and a Tesla Ranger is coming to his house to remove it for no charge.  If you'd prefer to do it yourself, he shared this handy video on how to remove it:

This was true of my 2018 S 100D. It comes off easily. It is glued with a flexible removable glue and has a bolt screw underneath with a tamper proof head but is still removable with a good pair of pliers.

I had mine removed at EV Studio when then installed my PPF and tinted the windows. Like Doug said, the front license plate holder was easily removed. Pete, the owner of EV Studio, simply heated the back of it with a blowdryer. It practically fell off in minutes.

It’s true. Easy to remove. I had a friend reach under from the bottom of the holder and I applied some pressure on left atop and right. Watching from below with a flashlight it is easy to see the adhesive tape come loose. Slowly the plate holder comes away and after about a minute it comes totally away from the car. Roll the tape residue away with your finger tips and the job is done. I drove to Eatonville service center and they informed me Tesla no longer removes the plate holder because some states require it. My SPlaid is a 2022.
